Brâncuși – Art is the absolute truth, Dialogue with Doina Lemny

Constantin Brancusi was mentioned in Luxembourg on May 12 in Dreschehaus. RoKultur Association organized a dialogue between Doina Lemny, art historian, researcher specialized in the work of Constantin Brâncuși and Ana-Maria Gîrleanu-Guichard, head of the Department of Romanian Literature at the University of Strasbourg.

We have discovered a new side of the father of modern sculpture, brought to light by Doina Lemny through the volume ‘Art is the Absolute Truth, Notes and Aphorisms’, in which the sculptor’s workshop notes are brought together for the first time in the form in which they were written, as preserved and classified in the Brancusi Fund at the Kandinski Library, Pompidou Centre.

Doina Lemny is a doctor of art history at the University of Paris I – Sorbonne with the thesis ‘Le milieu artistique et culturel de Brâncuși: essai d’investigation à partir du legs au Musée national d’art modern’. He worked between 1991-2019 at the National Museum of Modern Art Centre Pompidou in Paris and participated in the reinstallation of Brancusi's Workshop. She is the author of numerous volumes on the life and work of Constantin Brancusi and has curated several international exhibitions with his works. In 2024, she was curator of the exhibition ‘Brâncuși: Romanian sources and universal perspectives’, which took place at the National Museum of Art Timisoara, as part of the European Capital of Culture programme.

The event marks the ‘Year of Constantin Brancusi’, celebrates the Francophonie and is organised in partnership with Embassy of Romania in Luxembourg and ICR Brussels.
