RoKultur is also participating this year in the European Heritage Days event organised in Luxembourg on 17 and 18 October 2026.
We will organize two intergenerational embroidery workshops, where participants will learn basic techniques and embroider their initials on a piece of hemp, thus evoking the times when monograms served as a sign of family identity.
The art of homemade embroidery is a form of intangible heritage at risk of disappearing. Embroidered textiles, such as tablecloths, kitchen napkins, decorative pillows, curtains and tablecloths – performed practical, aesthetic, ritual and social functions. Embroidery strengthened community ties as women came together to sew, learn from each other and pass on this craft to younger generations.
Today these embroidered pieces have almost completely disappeared due to urbanization, modern manufacturing techniques and the fast pace of everyday life; they are still found today in rural museums or flea markets.
The workshops will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October in the Castle of Koerich from 10.30 to 13.30. The minimum age of participation is 7 years.
At the end of the workshop, the participants will go home with a unique, personalized object. More importantly, they will acquire the fundamental skills needed to try other embroidery projects at home.
